Today, let’s look at another type of microdermabrasion machine on the market. It’s the Crystalift.

The approach with this treatment is very much different from that of diamond tip devices, including Diamond Radiance or Microderm MD. Instead of having a diamond that gently removes the dead skin’s top layer, this method uses small crystals that will exfoliate the dead skin layer away.

So how have the results been from this machine so far? We’ve dug into the research to share with you just how effective the Crystalift Microdermabrasion Machine is to exfoliate and renew the skin.

Breaking It Down

As mentioned above, a Crystalift microdermabrasion machine uses tiny crystals that help in exfoliating the top layer of dead skin away. You can read more about the purpose and process of microdermabrasion in-depth in our post about microdermabrasion machines.

They remove the top-most skin layer, revealing the softer new skin below. This layer can more easily draw in vital nutrients to benefit the thicker skin layer, known as the Dermis [1]. It becomes more absorbent because the skin is fresh and so it becomes plumper and more hydrated than the older dry skin that was removed.

Many people don’t know the facts about skin care issues, but many are linked to dermis problems. Acne, for example, might be brought on by excess sebum, the body’s natural oil, produced in the sebaceous gland in the Dermis. To effectively treat this acne, you need clear access to the Dermis layer by removing the top skin layer, so that your acne treatment can work at reducing excess sebum production.

Woman surrounded by crystals

Crystalift uses tiny crystals to penetrate your skin at a level deep enough to work with the vacuum lift of the device. Together, they rough up and vacuum up the uppermost dead skin layer, revealing a fresh coat of skin below. After the device has finished, you’ll rinse the crystals thoroughly away so that there aren’t any left within your skin. If you leave stray crystals in the skin, this can result in more profound skin damage [2]. Be sure to rinse them away thoroughly.

The Benefits of Microdermabrasion

Traditionally, individuals would visit their dermatologist for a microdermabrasion treatment. Today, it’s become so easy to care for your skin from the comfort of your home.

Microdermabrasion offers many benefits for individuals who experience some of the following symptoms:

  • Age Spots
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Acne Scars
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Dullness
  • Rough texture
  • Large Pores [3]

Investing in a microdermabrasion device may just be one of the best purchases you can make for your skin. A quality device will remove dead skin cells, leaving your skin feeling and looking fresh. It also reduces the appearance of pores, fine lines, and improves the overall texture of your skin.

Why Is it Hot?

Old man giving thumbs up

We won’t beat around the bush – this Crystalift is better than some traditional microdermabrasion methods, but it isn’t even close to the other home machines you can purchase.

Even so, there are some things we do like about the Crystalift:

  1. It’s Cheaper than Other Devices or Services. You won’t have to pay a couple of hundred dollars each spa visit to enjoy a microdermabrasion treatment. Instead, you can purchase your own product and treat yourself whenever you need it.
  2. Its $249 price tag makes it about $50 less than many other devices available today. With the often high prices of skin care machines, this makes a difference for those who care about the quality of their skin but have to be careful with money. You will need to purchase crystal capsule refills, though, and this may add up to even more than the difference in price as compared to other devices. It would have to be worth it to you to use crystals to accept the price difference.
  3. It’s nice, pain-free and gentle. Some skin exfoliation methods can be uncomfortable to go through, but this method causes no pain or irritation. Most people who’ve tried the crystal microdermabrasion feel that it’s a lot gentler on their skin than other devices, and we tend to agree. After applying the device, you won’t find the face of your skin as pink as it can be with other microdermabrasion methods. In fact, there is usually almost no pain at all, which is a plus.
  4. It’s easy to use as well, which is crucial for at-home use and an excellent final bonus for this machine.

We do like a couple of things about Crystalift, but it has its downfalls, too. Keep reading to see where it falls short.

Where It’s Not Hot!

Beach with palm trees and umbrella

It’s a nice product, but it can’t match up to the power of some higher quality devices on the market. These machines are supposed to remove the top skin layer entirely, and a device like this one doesn’t have enough power to clear away that whole top layer truly. This should probably be expected from a product with such a low price tag in comparison to other options, but it’s still nice to be pleasantly surprised when a product exceeds expectations.

Unfortunately, that did not happen in this case. It wasn’t severely disappointing, however, and it still proved to remove a good portion of the top layer of the dermis to reveal fresh skin below.

We also dislike some aspects of this type of machines – you have to buy refills for them, and those all cost money. Thus, the more you want to use your machine, the more you have to spend. While the primary asset to this would be to have your own machine to avoid continually paying for spa treatments, you still end up having recurring payments because of the refills.

Diamond tip machines don’t need refills, which makes it a bit more attractive in this case.

In addition, crystal microdermabrasion may result in skin damage if you don’t thoroughly rinse every crystal off your face. It’s crucial to pay close attention after using the machine to clear the skin of leftover crystals on the face. As long as the user is very diligent in cleansing afterward, they should be fine.

Is Microdermabrasion Appropriate at any Age?

There isn’t a specific age limit when it comes down to microdermabrasion. We have heard of children as young as 12 to adults of 65 using this method. We do not recommend a microdermabrasion device for anyone over the age of 70 as it may cause bruising. Instead, consider visiting a dermatologist to explore your options.

How Often Should You Use Crystalift?

Be sure you’re always following the directions included in the Crystalift manual. A good rule of thumb is using microdermabrasion as needed. Everyone skins tolerance is different. Some individuals may use it weekly while others only use it once every 6 weeks. It also depends on your skin and what you’re trying to repair.

You won’t start to see real results until after a few treatments (6-12). Remember to be consistent, follow instructions, and have patience as you rejuvenate your skin. We also recommend using eye pads or goggles before beginning to protect your eyes.

What’s the Skin Score?

Assessment score

It’s not difficult to determine which microdermabrasion approach is better, crystals or diamond tip. The diamond tip models have more power, and they don’t cause any side effects like the leftover crystals in the crystal systems can. Diamond tip units don’t need refills, either.

After using Crystalift you’ll notice your skin feels smoother and more rejuvenated. In comparison to other crystal devices, Crystalift is most assuredly a better one, but it doesn’t rate as highly as some other microdermabrasion machines.

We placed Crystalift as #4 on our top microdermabrasion machines list, and it has a skin score three stars!

Already tried this device? We’d like to hear all about it! Did it work for you? What didn’t you like?
