If you closely follow beauty and anti-aging industry trends, chances are you’ve heard about collagen supplements and remedies that promise youthful skin and to reverse the aging process.
While you should always take such sales language with a healthy dose of skepticism, the truth is there is scientific evidence that supports the collagen supplement benefits advertised by beauty product manufacturers.
Let’s take a look at the health benefits of collagen and what you can expect when taking collagen supplements, including a quick review of the types of collagen products available.
Before we can get into the details regarding how collagen can improve your health, it is essential to explain what collagen is and its role in our bodies. Collagen is a protein, but not just any protein. It’s the most abundant protein in the human body.
To better understand collagen’s role in the human body, think of it as a binding substance that connects all bones and tissues, making it an essential part of our skin, joints, ligaments, and tendons. Over 80% of human skin consists of collagen and helps determine the shape of our internal organs.
Unfortunately, collagen production slows down by the time we reach our mid-30s. On average, human skin loses 1% of its collagen every year after reaching this age, which is why most people start noticing wrinkles and their skin losing elasticity around this time.
The good news is that scientists, in cooperation with health and beauty companies, have been working on supplements that could help slow down this process and improve your overall health as you age.
Due to a diverse role in our bodies, collagen can influence our health in various ways. The benefits of collagen supplements vary depending on the condition/part of the body the supplement is targeting.
The most common forms of collagen products are collagen pills and powders. The benefits of collagen powders are that they mix easily, while the benefits of collagen pills are in their convenience and pre-measured dosage. Collagen benefits for men and women also tend to vary. Additionally, products like creams and topicals containing collagen are available, as well.
It is important to note that the natural collagen our bodies produce is not available in supplements. Collagen is a large and complex molecule that can’t be absorbed by the body through ingestion or skin application. Most supplements and products use collagen peptides, which are much easier for our bodies to absorb.
What are the benefits of collagen peptides? They mimic the health benefits of natural collagen. The actual benefits of supplements and other collagen products might vary, depending on the manufacturer and their production process.
The first thing we think of when someone mentions collagen is skin since collagen is a major building block of youthful and healthy skin.
Skin is also the first place you will notice the lack of collagen as you age. Collagen and elastin are the two proteins that make sure that our skin stays smooth and full to touch and prevent the appearance of wrinkles and age spots.
Taking collagen to promote skin health will result in less dryness, noticeable skin hydration, and a significant reduction in wrinkle depth.
In fact, a study done in 2015 by MINERVA Research Labs in London discovered that just nine weeks of oral collagen supplementation could reduce wrinkle depth by 5 to 8% and produce a statistically relevant improvement in elasticity and hydration levels.
However, age is not the only factor in the decline of collagen in the skin. Excessive exposure to the sun, an unhealthy diet, or smoking are all significant factors that can negatively affect collagen production. Collagen supplements and products can improve your skin’s condition by building more elasticity, making the signs of aging and wrinkles less visible, providing a more youthful appearance.
To maintain these benefits and results, keep taking the supplements. They don’t stimulate new collagen production–they replace it.
As collagen production in the body decreases, hair begins to lose its silky texture and signature shine. Over time, it also becomes less elastic and easier to damage.
One of the health benefits of collagen peptides found in supplements is that they can bring back the texture of your hair. Your hair will begin to shine again, and the growth rate and its elasticity will improve. However, it may take a while for the supplements to show results and your hair to recover fully.
Collagen plays a vital role as a connective substance found in joints, tendons, and ligaments. Without collagen, the contact between bones without cushioning would result in unbearable pain. Collagen powder and pills benefits include improved flexibility in the joints and a decrease in pain levels. For those who are young and still have healthy joints, it can result in improved athletic performance.
Collagen is vital for a healthy heart and other internal organs. Itensuresyour blood vessels are strong and flexible enough to endure the daily strain you put on them. Collagen is also responsible for coating the inside walls of the same vessels, allowing for the smooth texture of the blood vessels and preventing potential clogs that might lead to deadly heart conditions.
Taking collagen supplements could help you minimize the risk of cardio-related diseases and disorders. In addition, collagen supplements can stimulate muscle growth, leading to gained mass and strength. This benefit can also make your skin look firmer and reduce sagging.
At Pierre Michel Beauty, we believe a healthy lifestyle and quality products are keys to better skin—and a better life. If you’re interested in trying collagen products and supplements, we’ve carefully curated a list of top-quality options. Have a look at our reviews.
Cruelty-free beauty is a trend that many people have embraced, but it can be challenging to find high-quality products that are organic, vegan, and still good for your skin. Many drug stores and even high-end department stores don’t sell vegan and cruelty-free skincare products, which makes the search for the right product incredibly difficult.
While organic products are generally great for sensitive skin, it’s still a good idea to sample several products before committing to a product line. Instead of buying a full-sized bottle only to find out that you’re allergic to what’s inside, consider finding sample sizes to test on your skin.
Organic skincare subscription boxes are becoming increasingly popular all over the world. They’re an excellent option for people looking for clean beauty products that are non-toxic, eco-friendly, and cruelty-free. Since you get several different items per box, you can quickly build up a skincare or beauty regime just from the items you get.
The main drawback of beauty subscription boxes is essentially the same as their main advantage: you don’t know what you’re going to get every month. There are plenty of unscrupulous sellers waiting to cash in the clean beauty trend. They’ll sell a box that contains a few low-quality products but charge their customers a hefty price.
That’s why we’ve compiled a shortlist of our favorite subscriptions. Not only are they excellent value for money, but the boxes are often loaded with many lovely extras, as well.
Beauty Heroes offers a clean beauty box with plenty of heavy hitters in the organic skincare world, including Josh Rosebrook, True Botanicals, and Max & Me. Each monthly discovery is specially selected by Beauty Heroes staff to suit any skin type and fit into any skincare or beauty regimen.
The subscription price varies from $37.96 to $58.95 per month, depending on the length of your agreement. If you commit to a year, you’ll receive a significant discount resulting in hundreds of dollars saved.
Beauty Heroes sends out a monthly box with one full-size product and one deluxe sampler (which is sometimes full-size, as well). The estimated minimum value of every monthly box is $90, meaning you will save up to $50 per month.
Beauty Hero box subscribers also get several perks on the Beauty Hero website. You get a 15% discount on all store items at all times, and you’ll get notified of limited edition releases in advance, allowing you to beat the rush.
Even if you don’t want to subscribe to the box, you can get a store-wide 10% discount on your first purchase by simply entering your name and email address.
If you want a natural beauty subscription box that finds undiscovered treasures, Boxwalla is well worth the look. Instead of just relying on big-name organic beauty brands, Boxwalla scours the earth to find high-quality, independent products that showcase the best of the indie scene.
The subscription costs a flat rate of $45 per month, with a box delivered every two months. There are no cancellation fees, so you can cancel after you find a product that piques your interest, or stay subscribed for extra perks.
The box comes with two full-sized skincare products, though sometimes Boxwalla will throw in an extra product just for fun. Each box’s value comes to around $200 to $250, making it one of the best value for the money boxes around.
US residents get free shipping in the US. Sometimes, Boxwalla will also throw in a makeup item, though it is predominantly a skincare subscription box.
If you want to get the most out of your subscription, you can alternate between Boxwalla’s Movie and Book subscription, which also sends out boxes every two months:One month you’ll get a beauty product and the next a great movie/book combo.
The Art of Organics sticks to natural beauty box big hitters, making it the ideal option for people who want to play it safe. This natural box doesn’t compromise on quality, and you’ll get plenty of big-name organic brands, including AU Naturale, Kahina, and LUXE.
Art of Organics also does a lot to support independent artists, and each of their boxes features unique artwork by a highly talented indie artist.
As with many other subscription boxes, the monthly price depends on your commitment level. The most expensive sub is a two-month minimum of $41.95 per month or six months for $39.95 per month.
The box ships out every month and contains two full-sized beauty products, though these can vary from several smaller-sized products, as well. Art of Organics promises a minimum value of $85 or more in each box. All of their products are certified cruelty-free, with many also being organic and vegan.
While the store can’t commit to all their products being vegan or hypoallergenic, they will take your particular needs into account. If you email them after you sign up with your name, email, and specific restrictions, they’ll get in touch when a box contains a product you can’t use.
The Art of Organics organic beauty subscription box has free shipping for US residents, and the sub also gives you access to a 15% discount on all their online store items.
The Detox Box from the Detox Market takes the best products on the market and sends them directly to your door every month. In general, each box contains three organic beauty products from one big name brand, allowing you the chance to decide if you like the brand or not.
Unlike many other boxes, the Detox Box contains plenty of hair care and makeup products in addition to skincare or body care. If you’re looking for an organic makeup subscription box that offers other organic products, this may be the one for you.
You can choose from a six-, three-, or one-month subscription, each at a varying rate. You’ll pay $55 for the one-month subscription, $44.95 for the three-month subscription, and $39.95 for the six-month option. You’ll have to pay up-front for the entirety of your term, but you can cancel any time after that. Each box has a minimum value of $90, with free shipping, and it ships in the first week of every month.
While you don’t get a store discount, you can earn Detox Points that you can save up and use to buy future discounts in the store.
True Botanicals takes a slightly different spin on the vegan beauty box by letting you choose the products you want. You can also choose the time-frame of your subscription.
Once you’ve selected your full-size, non-toxic product, you’ll get a 10% discount and a gift in your subsequent subscription boxes. If you already know the products you like, this is a great way to pre-purchase a regular supply and score some nifty presents, as well.
When you subscribe to a particular True Botanicals product, you’ll receive 10% off the price and free shipping.
You can change any aspect of the subscriptions, such as your name, email address, and other billing information, and adjust your delivery frequency at any time.
You can place your full-size order once and forget about it until your boxes arrive.
If you’re struggling to find good options for natural, organic beauty products at your local stores, shopping online is your best bet. Beauty boxes are a great way to sample a wide range of curated products while saving money.
Finding the right beauty box, vegan or otherwise, can be incredibly tricky. Many offer disappointing products, while others don’t provide good value for your money. Once you find a subscription service you love, you’ll look forward to your box each month with bated breath.

Zeta White is a popular skin whitening system from Helpful Cosmetics Limited. Its three products have relatively mild, yet effective, allergen-free formula suitable for all skin types. This 95% organic formulation contains no toxins or chemicals, and Helpful Cosmetics Limited did not perform animal testing in the development of these products.
If you are looking for a gentle alternative to harsh bleaching chemicals, Zeta White may work for you.
Zeta White ranks as one of the best skin lightening systems for its three products: face wash, night cream, and moisturizer. Each component contains natural ingredients to lighten your skin tone and reduce the appearance of dark spots.
This combination creates a highly effective method for bleaching skin while providing optimal nourishment that gives your skin a healthy glow.
The ingredients in these products that promote skin lightening include strawberry, lemon, and licorice extract. Licorice extract contains glabidrin, which eliminates dark spots by inhibiting the production of the tyrosinase.
This enzyme causes darker pigmentation when sunlight shines on your skin. Licorice extract is also a safer alternative to 2% hydroquinone, a chemical for bleaching the skin that can cause redness and dryness.
Other ingredients in Zeta White skin lightening creams include zinc oxide to prevent sun damage and vitamin C to prevent oxidative damage.
The combination of skin whitening cream products works together to reduce tyrosinase and melanin production. Melanin is the pigment that causes coloration and uneven skin tone. Zeta White also has a skin care component with anti-aging ingredients.
In the morning, use the face wash by massaging a small amount into your skin. Remember to rinse thoroughly before you apply the moisturizer.
Before you go to bed at night, wash your face again. When your skinis dry, apply the night cream on your entire face. You will start seeing results within three weeks.
Meladerm is one of the most widely usedskin lightening creams forminimizing the appearance of dark spots and promoting an even skin tone. If you want a cruelty-free vegan cream that doesn’t contain harmful chemicals, Meladerm is one of your best options.
This product contains some of the best skin lightening ingredients, including kojic acid, alpha arbutin, and natural extracts such as bearberry, lemon, mulberry, Emblica fruit, and licorice fruit.
Meladerm also contains vitamin C to reduce pollution damage and hydrate the skin. Vitamin B3 is an active skin brightening agent, especially in combination with kojic acid and arbutin.
Ingredients in this skin care product that bleach the skin include GigaWhite™, SymWhite™, and Sepiwhite™. These ingredients work for all skin types, and they don’t contain hydroquinone, parabens, or sulfates that harm your skin.
The kojic acid in the whitening cream prevents the formation of tyrosine, which then inhibits melanin production, causing dark spots to fade. The alpha-arbutin in this skin care product inhibits pigmentation, which gives you lighter skin. This combination of kojic acid and alpha-arbutin ensures healthy bleaching for skin while minimizing your risk of irritation and other side effects.
The macronutrients in this product have an anti-aging effect, and they help to reduce the appearance of discoloration, sun damage, dark spots, and even birthmarks. The natural ingredients in Meladerm’s formula makeit one of the best skin lightening creams available, as a gentler alternative to other skin bleaching products.
Apply an even layer of Meladerm skin bleaching cream twice per day after washing and drying your facial skin. Stay out of direct sunlight and use this product in combination with a broad-spectrum sunblock of SPF 30 or higher to prevent sun damage. Avoid contact with your eyes, and don’t use this product if you are pregnant or nursing.
The Dark Spot Eraser from Paula’s Choice is a skin lightening cream that reduces dark spots and exfoliates dead skin cells. This product also hydrates and refines your skin’s surface to give it a healthy, youthful appearance.
The Dark Spot Eraser from Paula’s Choice has a unique formula for spots on your skin, fading them with skin brightening ingredients and nutrients for optimal skin care. Glycolic acid, a water-soluble acid and exfoliator, forms the heart of this cream, cleansing your skin while the lightening agents go to work.
This product also contains 2% hydroquinone, widely considered the best ingredient for hyperpigmentation. Hydroquinone is an abrasive ingredient, and if you have sensitive skin, it may cause irritation. However, this cream from Paula’s Choice offers the best skin lightening and fast results for other skin types.
Additionalingredients include vitamin E, salicylic acid, hydrogenated lecithin, and sodium hydroxide. The antioxidants in the ingredients promote overall skin health through hydration, replenishment, and exfoliation.
2% Hydroquinone prevents the skin from producing melanin, which forms dark spots in concentrated areas. In combination with glycolic acid and kojic acid, this cream covers all bases,so you see results within eight to twelve weeks. The antioxidants in the formula restore your skin tone and texture to give youa radiant appearance and smooth skin.
Apply a small amount of Paula’s Choice bleach for skin lightening over areas with discoloration. For best results, apply the product once per day after washing your face but before moisturizing. This product is a fluid lotion, soyour skin will absorb it quickly.
Because it contains hydroquinone, don’t use this product in combination with benzoyl peroxide to avoid irritating or staining your skin. You should also protect your skin from the sun’s UV rays with a sunblock that has a rating of SPF 30 or higher.
The Admire My Skin brightening serum is a highly effective lightening cream that consists of skin lightening agents and minerals to rejuvenate your skin.
The Admire My Skin brightening serum formula contains 2% hydroquinone and some of the best skin lightening ingredients, including kojic acid. The ingredients make this cream’s formula similar to that of our Paula’s Choice pick.
This serum also contains lactic acid, which contributes to reducing hyperpigmentation and delivering faster results. This alpha-hydroxy-acid has few drawbacks, but it can be harsh on your skin. However, if you don’t have sensitive skin and want faster results, it offers the ideal option.
As an antioxidant, the vitamin C in this formula reduces wrinkles, promotes collagen production, and inhibits melanin formation in the skin to lighten dark spots. Other ingredients include salicylic acid as an exfoliator and azelaic acid that kills acne-forming bacteria.
Admire My Skin brightening serum blocks the discoloration process in your skin. The active ingredient, hydroquinone and kojic acid, suppress melanin production, fading dark spots and other conditions such as age spots, freckles, melasma, and acne scars. You can also use this serum to treat other forms of hyperpigmentation, including post-inflammatory marks from eczema or psoriasis.
The salicylic acid helps your skin to shed the top layer of dead cells. This ingredient also alleviates some of the redness that hydroquinone may cause. The Admire My Skin serum contains vitamin C, which protects your skin from UV exposure and evens out your skin tone.
Start by applying the cream to your face once every three days and increase the frequency of use over time. After two weeks, you can start applying the cream once per day. Apply an SPF 30 sunblock to protect your skin against UV damage.
Illuminatural 6i is one of the best skin lightening creams for people who have sensitive skin. This cream lightens spots while promoting an even skin tone. It also contains brightening ingredients derived from vitamins, making it a safer alternative to hydroquinone products.
Illuminatural 6i has a unique formula that consists of six active ingredients, including 8% sodium lactate, a skin-lightening component. This product also contains magnesium ascorbyl phosphate, which is a vitamin C derivative.
In combination with sodium lactate, this ingredient promotes hydroxyproline production and hydroxylysine, which binds collagen-producing molecules.
Other ingredients in this product include niacinamide, a form of vitamin B3, whitonyl, and alpha-arbutin. Ingredients like aloe barbadensis leaf juice and titanium dioxide also offer protection against sun damage.
This product contains a range of lightening ingredients that work together to ensure fast results without causing skin irritation. Like most other ingredients in lightening creams, sodium lactate inhibits tyrosinase production, which, in turn, blocksthe production of melanin that causes dark spots.
Niacinamide reduces hyperpigmentation and can lighten your skin within a month. Like sodium lactate, whitonyl and alpha-arbutin reduce melanin production in concentrated areas.
Other ingredients such as dimethicone and aloe barbadensis leaf juice have skin care qualities that hydrate the skin, improve skin elasticity, and offer protection against pollutants.
Apply Illuminatural 6i twice per day in areas that you want to lighten and rub gently until your skin absorbs the cream. Ideally, you should apply the cream in the morning and before you go to bed. You can apply makeup after application without reducing its effect.
You can expect to see results within 90 days. Wear sunblock with at least SPF 30 for the duration of use to prevent skin darkening.
When shopping for one perfect product for you out of the best skin lightening creams, you can’t just consider its skin-lightening effects. You also need to maintain optimal skin health.
Abrasive products containing harsh chemicals may lighten dark spots but cause irritation, dryness, redness, and other harmfulskin conditions.
By selecting a product with nourishing ingredients and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, your skin will look better than ever. The products in this guide are safe to use, and many of our picks, such as the Illuminatural 6i and Zeta White brightening system, work well on sensitive skin.
The best skin lightening ingredients are completely free from mercury and rich in nutrients like vitamins and minerals. Look for products containing vitamins A, C, and E. The healthiest skin brightening formulasinclude kojic acid, strawberry, lemon, and licorice extract, and vitamin C.
Hydroquinone is not inherently harmful, but it can be abrasive if you have sensitive skin. However, if you have a normal or oily skin type, you probably won’t see side effects like dryness or irritation.
The best skin lightening creams will contain ingredients such as titanium dioxide that protect your skin against damage from pollutants and the sun’s UV rays.
The best skin lightening creams do not necessarily deliver the fastest results. However, they do inhibit melanin production in the long run while providing your skin with the nutrients it needs.
If you’re going to an event, like a wedding or a party, and want to brighten your skin and get rid of spots for the occasion, you may look for a cream that will make them disappearin the shortest time possible.
In these cases, select a cream containing hydroquinone or sodium lactate. Secondly, make lifestyle changes to promote skin health. Thirdly, protect your skin from the sun, as UV rays can cause darkening, wrinkles, and even skin cancer.
When you exercise, you improve blood circulation, which increases the delivery of nutrients and oxygen to the skin. It also promotes collagen production, which will enhance your skin tone and give your facial skin a healthy appearance.
Your diet should include fruit and vegetables rich in antioxidants and nuts and fish to give your body healthy fats. By increasing your intake of nutrients such as beta carotene, vitamins E and C, selenium, and zinc, you will promote skin health and optimize the effect of your skin lightening cream.
Drinking enough water will not directly result in lighter skin, but it will promote your skin cells’ optimal functioning. If your cells do not get enough water, your skin becomes tight, dry, and flaky, which increases your risk of irritation and redness.
You can also hydrate your skin with a moisturizing agent. The best skin lightening creams contain vitamin C, which promotes skin hydration.
When you sleep, your cortisol levels drop, which helps your skin repair daytime damage. Your body also produces collagen, a protein that increases blood flow to the skin to improve elasticity, reduce wrinkles, and give your face a healthy, radiant glow.
A healthy sleep schedule enables your skin to benefit more from your lightening cream, and you may even see faster results.
Exfoliation, or the removal of dead skin cells, should go hand-in-hand with your skin lightening treatment. Lightening creams containing glycolic acid or salicylic acid have inherent exfoliation qualities.
Exfoliation helps your lightening creams penetrate deeper into your skin and prevents acne. By exfoliating your skin, you also break down dry skin, giving it a smooth texture and uniform appearance.
Lightening blemishes such as acne scars, freckles, sun damage, and marks from psoriasis can go a long way to give your facial skin a healthy appearance. With the creams in this review guide, you can lighten your skin in record time and with minimal effort while avoiding expensive treatments. Select a skin lightening cream from our list and start seeing skin that makes you feel confident and look radiant within a few weeks.
Most people think acne is something you grow out of, along with your poor choice in music and skimpy clothes. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, around 85% of teens experience mild or severe acne until the age of 24.
Surprisingly, acne occurrence in adults is on the rise, with 15% of women reporting outbreaks in their 30s, 40s, and beyond. Acne care is a huge industry, with over five million Americans getting medical treatment for the condition in 2013.
Since there’s such a big demand for acne treatments, beauty companies conduct a lot of research and spend a lot of money to develop effective acne treatments. There are so many different products to choose from, and it can be challenging to find a clearing treatment that works. Different skin types react differently to products, with some being too harsh for sensitive skin.
If you’ve ever struggled with problem skin, you’re probably familiar with the cycle of trying out new products that promise instant results, only to find that they don’t work, and you’ve just wasted weeks of time and plenty of money.
That’s why it’s so important to stick to proven, evidence-based formulations. As research into acne continues, companies are starting to determine which ingredients work without causing excess damage to your skin.
Paula’s Choice acne kit promises great results without drying out your skin. But how effective is the product? We did some digging to find out whether this kit is worth your time.
The company started up in 1995 as one of the world’s first online beauty brands. The founder, Paula Begoun, struggled with eczema and acne, and her struggles as a consumer informed her decision to start a brand that would offer high-end, effective products for all skin types.
The brand has expanded into over 20 countries worldwide, including Taiwan, Australia, Europe, Taiwan, Singapore, and India. The company’s dedication to researching and finding science-backed solutions to formulate products with compounds that work is what sets them apart.
The company doesn’t just focus on researching and making skincare products that work; it’s also committed to cruelty-free and environmentally conscious production.
The brand is Leaping Bunny certified and continues to reduce its carbon footprint by finding sustainable ingredients. In 2019, Paula’s Choice also partnered with Terracycle to offer free recycling options for 100% of packaging.
In addition to Paula’s Choice for acne, the brand has plenty of other award-winning products including:
The Paula Choice acne treatment kit only uses proven compounds that have been tested in the lab to help clear acne and reduce redness. The two main compounds are benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid, both of which are an excellent choice to reduce the causes of acne.
Benzoyl peroxide has two main acne-fighting abilities: it kills bacteria in pores and helps pores shed dead skin and excess sebum. Acne is often a result of pores getting clogged with sebum, after which they become infected by bacteria, leading to pimples and whiteheads.
As with any other skincare ingredients, benzoyl peroxide does have some limitations and potential side effects. The two most common side effects include irritated and red skin and stained clothing and hair. Some people also experience allergic reactions, and it may not be the best choice if you suffer from eczema.
BHA, or salicylic acid, is an organic compound found in willow bark. It’s a natural anti-inflammatory and antibiotic. Skincare companies have started using BHA as one of their main ingredients in pore-cleansing formulations.
Salicylic acid is the choice ingredient against acne and other skin conditions because it’s an oil-soluble compound. It can get deep into your skin and break down excess oil and dead skin that may trigger an acne outbreak.
The main drawback of regular BHA use is that it’s an acid that can dry out and irritate your skin. That’s why it’s so important to have other compounds that can combat this effect.
While the two products above represent the most important ingredients in the CLEAR line, they don’t work alone. Since both the active compounds are quite harsh on the skin, it’s essentialto have other compounds that counteract thisnegativeeffect.
Many of the soothing compounds found in the CALM line of products are plant-based and include:
Apart from beneficial ingredients, some compounds in the CLEAR line may cause some people concern. The first one is glycol, which has received a bad reputation due to its use in manufacturing processes and as the main compound in antifreeze.
Glycol is a common chemical in the cosmetics industry, and, despite scaremongering, is safe for skincare use. It helps other compounds enter the skin and work their magic and keeps the formulation soft and smooth.
The Paula Choice for acne kit contains three main products:
In addition to Paula’s Choice CLEAR regular strength line, you can also choose the extra strength anti-redness exfoliating solution and daily skin clearing treatment. These extra-strength products contain higher concentrations of the main ingredients, making them more effective while still retaining their gentle skincare approach.
The main difference between the regular strength products and their extra strength variants is the concentration of active ingredients. For instance, the regular strength one has 2.5% benzoyl peroxide, compared to 5% in the extra strength.
You can also combine the kit with other CLEAR Paula’s Choice products like an oil-free moisturizer, purifying clay mask, or SPF 30+ light hydrating fluid. Doing so will provide you with a comprehensive skincare routine that addresses your acne issue while still taking care of your skin.
What we like about this kit is its simplicity. Unlike many other skincare routines on the market, this kit only has three simple steps to follow: cleanse, exfoliate and moisturize. If you’re one of those people who wants an effective routine that heals your skin without spending hours in the bathroom, this may be a perfect skincare kit for you.
The first step in the CLEAR skincare routine is the normalizing cleanser. It helps get rid of any accumulated oil and grime while also removing dead skin. The cleanser contains salicylic acid as its active ingredient, which helps combat inflammation and redness.
The pore normalizing cleanser is relatively fluid, which helps it penetrate deep into the pores, helping neutralize bacteria while also minimizing pore sizes. According to an independent clinical trial, over 96% of users found smaller post-acne marks after using the cleanser for several weeks.
We like this cleanser because it rinses off without leaving any residue, which may otherwise irritate or clog the skin. Once you’ve cleansed your skin with the cleanser, your skin will feel refreshed, clean, and ready to receive the benefits of the products to follow.
This exfoliating solution comes in two strengths: regular strength or extra strength, depending on the severity of your acne. The main ingredient in this solution is BHA, which works to unclog pores and calm redness.
The solution also contains allantoin and dipotassium glycyrrhizate, which are lesser-known skin soothing agents. It even has glycerin and sodium hyaluronate, which replenish the skin, leaving it feeling plump and soft.
All of these ingredients combine into a leave-in exfoliator that reduces the occurrence of blackheads and white bumps. Unlike many harsh exfoliating solutions, the CLEAR anti-redness solution is gentle enough to use, even on skin prone to cystic acne.
Also available in regular strength and extra strength variants, the CLEAR skinclearing treatment uses benzoyl peroxide to target the leadingcause of acne. Benzoyl peroxide is a well-known antibacterial agent, and clinical studies have repeatedly shown that it helps clear up acne-producing bacteria.
The treatment also has several plant-based extracts that soothe and calm the skin and combat the harshness of benzoyl peroxide. These extracts allow you to safely use the treatment twice a day, even if you’re prone to cystic acne.
The main difference between CLEAR regular strength and extra strength is the amount of benzoyl peroxide used. The CLEAR regular strength variant uses 2.5% of the active ingredient, while the extra strength doubles to 5%.
Many acne treatments make huge promises and simply don’t deliver. Some use overly harsh ingredients that combat acne but will leave your skin worse than when you started. Others are so gentle that they don’t even make a dent in your breakouts.
So what sets this brand and this particular kit apart? We’ve taken a look at some of the brand’s more appealing qualities that makes their promises more believable.
Most skincare companies will say what their products and ingredients do, but won’t follow it up with any evidence. Luckily, Paula’s Choice is different, with a strong focus on transparency and scientific research.
Every product on their website has a section that links to a set of articles backing their claims. They also use independent studies to test their products, further supporting their effectiveness.
If your eyes glaze over when reading over a list of ingredients, you’ll also appreciate that the company explains what every compound does. If you’ve never heard of dipotassium glycyrrhizate before, the ingredient list will inform you that it’s a skin-soothing agent.
Product guarantees are a good way to find out if a company believes in their products. Brands tend to offer 30-day guarantees, which isn’t long enough for you to experience their products’ full effect on your skin. So what you may end up with is irritated skin,an empty wallet, and no way to get your money back.
Paula’s Choice has a refreshing 60-day, hassle-free guarantee, which states that you can get a full refund on any product returned within 60 days. It goes a bit further than that as well, giving you a 180-day window to request store credit instead.
So instead of worrying if a skin care productisthe right choice for you, you can try out Paula’s Choice products with peace of mind that you’ll get your money back if it doesn’t work.
While many acne products for problem skin get targeted directly at teens, Paula’s Choice kit offers a refreshingly minimalist approach. Instead of focusing on age, it focuses on the problem it’s going to fix. It’s suitable for most people struggling with acne-prone skin, no matter what age.
If you’re starting to think that this kit may be the one to solve your problem skin, you’ll be happy to know that you can find a range of Paula’s Choice products either online or in Nordstrom stores in the US.
We recommend buying through the Paula’s Choice website, which also offers free consultations and delivery to over 20 countries worldwide. You can also take advantage of the regular sales to pick up the CLEAR kit at a more affordable price than in stores.
You can also subscribe to Paula’s Choice’s email list to gain access to exclusive offers and 15% off of your first order.
So is Paula’s Choice good for acne? The short answer is: Yes. It contains two of the most well-researched compounds in skincare, namely benzoyl peroxide and BHA.
The kit also comes with a choice of regular strength and extra-strength formulations, which target different skin issues. You can also adapt the kit with other products in the CLEAR line to customize the routine for your skin type.
One thing we would have liked to see in the CLEAR kit is a product that targets hyperpigmentation or scarring. Unfortunately, none of the main ingredients in this kit address these issues, and if you have severe hyperpigmentation, you may want to find another product.
Overall, we found that these products did exactly what they said they would. We appreciate the brand’s transparency, the generous money-back guarantee, and their commitment to science-based skincare. If you’re looking for a skin treatment that backs up its promises, this may be the one for you.
There are a few things that everyone agrees are awful: telemarketers, traffic jams, paying taxes, and, of course, acne. More than 40 million people suffer from acne each year, most of them with mild to moderates cases. It’s natural to look at those blemishes or red marks and wish they would disappear.
If you’ve spent even a small amount of time looking at acne treatments, you’ve probably heard of Proactiv. It’s one of the most recognizable brands, but the true test of acne products is how they fit with your skincare routine. We hope this Proactiv review will help you decide if Proactiv is right for you.
Proactiv is a heavyweight in the acne treatment industry. The company markets itself as America’s number one acne brand, selling more products than every competitor in 2019. More than 20 million people worldwide use Proactiv each year, which centerson three systems with three steps each.
Proactiv got its start in 1995 as the brainchild of two dermatologists, Kathy Fields and Katie Rodan. The duo initially formulated the idea after meeting at the Standard University School of Medicine in the late 1980s. Their goal was to provide fast and affordable acne treatments.
Direct-response marketing company Guthy-Renker agreed to create commercials and distribute Proactiv starting in October 1995. Proactiv Solution, which contains a cleanser, lotion, and toner, was an instant hit. Subsequent years saw Proactiv roll out new products to keep up with market demand.
The company released a Proactiv line in 2010 with benzoyl peroxide balls for quicker and gentler results. Three years later, it launched Proactiv+ to fight acne and aging simultaneously. ProactivMD is the latest innovation, a gel 30 years in the making. The adapalene-powered solution marks the first over-the-counter FDA-approved acne treatment with adapalene.
While it’s easy to get swept up in Proactiv’s volume and valuation, the results are what’s important.
Do these acne treatments work, and whatskin types are they right for? Belowis a quick overview of Proactiv’s three acne treatments. To learn about any of these more in-depth, visit www.proactiv.com.
Proactiv+ uses combination therapy to prevent acne. This multi-step skincare treatment includes an acne-fighting formula that quells existing breakouts and prevents new ones from forming. The comprehensive approach to skincare is one of the hallmarks that made Proactiv what it is today.
Proactiv+ contains Smart Target technology, making it precise and effective. Smart Target contains benzoyl peroxide (BPO), which experts consider a high watermark in acne treatment. The compound eliminates bacteria in the pore, so acne doesn’t have a chance to start.
While the modest 2.5% BPO content can sometimes cause skin irritation, Smart Target contains the BPO in a gel-like liquid.
The design allows the treatment to penetrate deep into the skin. It delivers twice the BPO power but a fraction of the irritation.
Don’t just take our word for it. Proactiv performed a 13-week trial of Proactiv+, and each participant saw their skin quality improve. Some of the other perks included the following:
Proactiv+ is as easy as one, two, three. Many users experience a complete skin transformation in as little as six weeks with the three-step routine. Here’s how it works:
The first step in the Proactiv+ system is askin-smoothing exfoliator. This cream cleanser removes dead cells, oil, dirt, and other particulates to restore a healthy complexion. Proactiv recommends applying the solution twice a day, preferably in the morning and evening.
Place a dollop of exfoliator on slightly damp skin. Massage the cream into your face using a circular motion for one to two minutes. Cleanse your face with warm water before patting dry.
The pore-targeting treatment serves as the heart and soul of Proactiv+. The formula kills bacteria inside the skin that otherwise leads to blemishes, thus stopping the acne before it starts.
Put at least two pumps of pore-targeting treatment onto your dry skin. Rub the cream across your face and let it stand. You should wait until your skin absorbs the cream before moving onto the final step.
The complexion-perfecting hydrator provides radiancea quarter-sized dose at a time. This moisturizing medication helps restore your skin’s plumpness while adding a healthy sheen. You’ll also notice an improved tone and color without pesky red bumps or post-acne marks.
Apply the hydrator to your dry skin and rub it over your entire face. Let the skin absorb the cream and reapply as needed during the day. Apply sunscreen in combination with the complexion-perfecting hydrator if you decide to go outdoors.
BPO is the primary active ingredient in the skin-smoothing exfoliator and pore-targeting treatment. The complexion-perfecting hydration features 0.5% salicylic acid. The acidic compound dissolves dead cells that clog pores and lead to acne.
Salicylic acid exfoliates skin for over-the-counter and prescription products. It provides proven relief from whiteheads and blackheads while reducing the chance for future blemishes. However, using salicylic acid more than three times can cause dryness.
Proactiv touts ProactivMD as its most advanced formula. The three-step system is ideal for mild and moderate acne and oily, dry, and sensitive skin types. The thing that makes ProactivMD unique is adapalene.
The United States Food and Drug Administration recently greenlit adapalene for over-the-counter medicines. The topical retinoid medication garnered pharmaceutical attention for increasing cell turnover and clearing pores. Adapalene works to stop acne before it has a chance to start.
Most acne occurs because dead skin cells collect inside your pores. Adapalene removes these potential blemishes, making it a highly sought-after treatment. It also comes with anti-inflammatory properties, so there’s no need to worry about redness or irritation.
Exfoliation breathes new life into your skin, removing old skin cells for an unmistakably healthier appearance. The deep-cleansing face wash contains exfoliating beads to rejuvenate your skin. Proactiv recommends the cleansing solution for anyone with moderate or persistent acne.
Apply a health dollop of face wash to slightly damp skin. Massage it into the skin using circular motions for one to two minutes, treating the entire face. Cleanse your face with warm water until the face wash is no longer visible.
Step two instills your skin with vibrance and lushness. The daily oil control moisturizer hydrates your skin for a long-lasting glow. Proactiv recommends using the moisturizer once in the morning after the exfoliation step.
Apply the moisturizer the same way you use sunscreen, making sure to cover your neck and face. The cream comes with SPF 30, which is more than enough if you want to enjoy some sunshine. You can wear the moisturizer with makeup too.
The star of the show is the adapalene gel 0.1%. The trace dosage of adapalene provides adequate treatment with a single drop per day. Cover the afflicted area with a fine layer of gel and let it sit until it’s no longer visible.
We recommend using the moisturizer before the adapalene gel 0.1%. Too much adapalene can dry out your skin, which is why the gel contains a small dose. ProactivMD is also best for people over the age of 11.
Adapalene is the critical ingredient, but all three steps optimize the skincare treatment’s results. They work in unison to clear and refresh skin without irritation. Other active ingredients include avobenzone, octisalate, and octocrylene.
Dermatologists have used ProactivMD in the clinical setting with stirring results. Participants’ demonstrably clearer skin made the acne treatment a first of its kind, paving the way for other topical retinoid medications. Some additional benefits include smaller-looking pores and improved ultraviolet light protection.
When Proactiv launched in 1995, Proactiv Solution was at the forefront. It’s the treatment that transformed Proactiv into a household name with spokespeople, such as Adam Levine, Britney Spears, and Justin Bieber. The original solution’s success vaulted it into tens of millions of American households.
BPO operates as the centerpiece, clearing breakouts and reducing the number of dead skin cells. The compound keeps pores clear, but it’s not the reason for Proactiv’s effectiveness. Glycolic acid creates a one-two punch that improves cell turnover and skin radiance.
Glycolic acid is a form of alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that appears in fruits and sugar canes. It separates dead skin cells from the underlying dermis, revealing a fresh layer of skin. The AHA also brightens complexion, stimulates collagen growth, accelerates healing, and improves tone.
Say goodbye to old skin and hello to unclogged pores and exfoliation. The renewing cleanser washes away sweat, oil, makeup, and dirt that make it hard for your skin to breathe. This first step provides a clean foundation for subsequent makeup or moisturization.
Apply a quarter-sized amount to slightly damp skin. Massage the cleanser for one to two minutes before rinsing your face. Pat your skin dry before moving to the second stage.
The revitalizing toner acts as Robin to the cleanser’s Batman. It purifies your skin, wiping away impurities and replacing them with an unmistakable sheen. The exfoliating cream leaves skin feeling younger and fresher than ever.
Place a dab of toner on a cloth or cotton ball. Rub the moist surface along your face in an upward motion, repeating the exercise in the mornings and evenings. Allow the skin to absorb the toner while making sure not to rinse or rub your face.
The repairing treatment stands as the unsung hero of the Proactiv Solution trio. It does the dirty work, digging in pores to remove the bacteria that causes acne. The solution contains small BPO crystals, which target microbes at the source.
Spread a small amount of repairing treatment over your face. Let the treatment dry before adding makeup or other skincare products. Use the three-step treatment twice a day for optimal results.
BPO is the active ingredient in the cleaner and repairing treatment, while glycolic acid does the heavy lifting in the toner. The combination therapy works because the ingredients target acne beneath the dermis. The precision approach allows each component to repair and soothe skin, improving blemishes, redness, or post-acne marks.
Your acne is as you unique as you are, which means treatment results will vary. Some people see results within the first three weeks—our tester did—but most people notice clearer skin within two months. We recommend contacting a dermatologist if you have an adverse reaction or don’t see results in the first six weeks.
Here’s what one of our helpful staff skincare testers experienced when usingProactiv in her words:
We’re not saying Proactiv is a miracle cure. Even the best acne treatments take time to reduce visible acne marks and blemishes. Follow the directions, though, and results will follow. Proactiv treatments typically take up to six months to achieve their full effect.
If Proactiv doesn’t work for you, it’s worth considering another premium treatment. Exposed Skin Care offers state-of-the-art cleansers, tonics, and serums with natural ingredients. The integration of science and nature makes it an attractive alternative to Proactiv products.
We’ve reviewed a lot of products, and few of them can stack up with Proactiv. They have built a name for themselves on innovative and effective treatments that offer actionable solutions for mild and moderate acne. Proactive products are not miracle workers, though, and a visit to a dermatologist is a better bet for severe or cystic acne.
However, Proactiv acne treatments will treat a wide range of skin issues. The original formula is the industry gold standard for treating pimples, while Proactiv+ provides a three-pronged attack on pimples, whiteheads, and blackheads. ProactivMD stands out for anyone with sensitivity, dryness, or hyperpigmentation.
All Proactiv products come with rigorous clinical research to ensure the best results. The easy-to-use treatments fit naturally into any morning or evening skincare routine. It’s one of the many reasons Proactiv reviews—like ours—are so overwhelmingly positive.

Zeta White is a natural, multi-product skin whitening system. Since its launch in 2017, it has emerged as one of the most popular dark spot treatment options on the market. The manufacturer, Helpful Cosmetics Limited, markets it as a “safe” and “natural way” to lighten skin.
If you have dark spots, acne scars, melasma, or sun-damage, chances are you’ve tried quite a few products and have learned that not every whitening product lives up to its marketing claims. In this Zeta White review, we go over everything there is to know about this whitening system to help you make an informed buying decision and decide if Zeta White is worth the money.
Zeta White is a three-part skin whitening system that includes a face wash, moisturizer, and night cream. All three are safe for all skin types.
Zeta White markets its skin whitening system as a safe alternative to harsh bleaching agents. The product has anti-inflammatory properties to brighten skin without causing damage and treats uneven skin or dark spots while brightening your overall complexion.
The secret to Zeta White’s effectiveness and safety is the ingredient sourcing. Every ingredient included in the system is 100 percent organic, natural, and vegan. Even better, they are well-known fruits and herbs, like lemons, green tea, strawberries, and papayas—so you’ll actually recognize and understand what the ingredients you’re putting on your skin are. These ingredients are also known for their effective skin lightening and acne treatment properties.
Here is how each Zeta White product formula works.
The first step in the Zeta White whitening system is an antioxidant-rich, moisturizing face wash. It contains papaya and lemon extract to naturally lighten your skin and reduce melanin production, as well as apricot oil.
Apricot oil stimulates collagen development and cell regeneration to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. It is an excellent source of gamma-linolenic, an omega fatty acid that’s commonly used to treat psoriasis, eczema, and other skin conditions.
These powerful ingredients are coupled with coconut and avocado oil to ensure the formula isn’t overly drying, along with a cornucopia of fruits, such as strawberry and cranberry.
The Zeta White Moisturizer treats dryness by helping to retain moisture in the outermost layer of your skin using a natural mix of some of nature’s most effective moisturizers, including olive, coconut, apricot, and sunflower oil.
It heals existing damage while providing essential nourishment for long-lasting results, and also contains strawberry and lemon extracts to aid in skin lightening.
In addition to keeping your skin soft and supple, this moisturizer is formulated to decrease the appearance of blemishes while increasing collagen production. The result is healthier-looking skin, even skin tone, and fewer wrinkles.
As a bonus, the moisturizer also contains zinc oxide, an effective physical sunblock. Skin lightening ingredients often increase your sensitivity to the sun, and many types of skin discoloration, such as melasma, are made worse by sun exposure, making sunscreen a must. Having a combination lightening lotion sunscreen is a convenient option.
Zeta White Night Cream allows you to fade dark spotswhile you sleep. The patented formula removes dead cells, paving the way for new, brighter skin. It has anti-oxidizing and moisturizing properties to combat fine lines, wrinkles, and other signs of aging.
The superstar in the night cream is allantoin. This compound comes from comfrey extract and stimulates skin cell growth while healing and protecting sensitive skin. Allantoin is widely considered an effective moisturizer for skincare, in part, because of its non-irritating properties. The night cream also contains Vitamin C—one of the most popular skin lightening ingredients.
You can view a full list of the ingredients in all three products on the Zeta White website.
You can purchase all three Zeta White products, or just one, though they are most effective if used together. Plus, if you buy all three, you’ll get a free bottle of skin lightening body lotion!
The face wash should be used twice daily, once in the morning and once in the evening. Apply a small amount to slightly wet skin and massage thoroughly. Rinse your face before gently drying.
In the morning, follow the facewash with the moisturizer. In the evening, use the night cream. To use either, dab a generous amount of the cream on your face and massage it in until it is no longer visible.
Both creams should be used on your entire face rather than as a spot cream.
Zeta White has “no nasty side effects,” according to the Zeta White website. That’s because the products only contain organic ingredients with no chemicals, fillers, or toxins. However, some people with sensitive skin may experience temporary redness or darkening after the initial application.
Many skin lightening products overpromise and under-deliver. Zeta White is not one of them. Based on Zeta White reviews online from verified buyers, you can expect consistent results, regardless of your existing skin conditions or complexion.
Thissuite of products actively works to reduce melanin production. Melanin is a pigment found in skin, hair, and the iris of your eye that’s responsible for coloration and can cause uneven spots or dark areas if produced in excess. While you won’t see results overnight, you will see them in as little as three weeks with daily application.
It’s true that you may be able to achieve faster results using products with bleaching agents, but these products come with potential health risks.
Skin bleaching products rely on controversial ingredients such as hydroquinone to disrupt melanin production. They often result in skin irritation, peeling, and may even cause a permanent form of skin discoloration called exogenous ochronosis. Some ingredients, including hydroquinone, are banned in many countries.
Zeta White is a natural remedy that is a chemical-free, safe alternative to skin bleaching, even if it is slightly slower acting. It also has the added benefits as a sunscreen, antioxidant, and moisturizer. Instead of sacrificing your skin health to lighten dark spots, you’ll improve it while simplifying your skincare routine in the process.
If you purchase the full three-piece system or at least two whitening products and use them for 90 days without seeing results, you can get a full refund on your order minus shipping costs.
Just return any unused product within 100 days—that’s a longer refund period than any other popular skin lightening system on the market, including Civant, Skin Bright, Skin White, and Ivory Caps. If you’ve used all the product—and Zeta White recommends that you do as consistent long-term use is key to results—you don’t have to send anything back.
For refunds, contact the Zeta White customer service team at firstname.lastname@example.org or call them at (646) 652-0495.
No Zeta White review would be complete without a list of pros and cons. You’ll be pleased to know there is a lot to love about these products. Just a few reasons to choose Zeta White include:
Zeta White is a promising skin lightening tool that offers a safe alternative to bleaching agents. The products do not damage or dehydrate your skin, so you can get results without sacrificing quality or performance. The system also has no significant side effects.
While there are a few downsides to Zeta White, they are minor. For instance, you have to use the products repeatedly to maintain the results. Zeta White has limited availability, too. You can only order it through the company website.
Overall, however, Zeta White stands out in a crowded skin lightening product market. The products provide premium results without any of the health risks associated with other options.
If you want a safe skin lightener that delivers on its marketing claims, then Zeta White is worth your consideration. Discover what Zeta White can do for your skin today.
Do you know how to get rid of dark circles under eyes for brighter, healthier skin? Anyone can experience dark circles. Left untreated, they can make you look tired, stressed, or older than you are.
In most circumstances, dark circles under eyes result from poor sleep habits. For some people, however, other factors come into play, as well. These factorscan include a lack of collagen, excessive eye strain, and even genetics.
Knowing how to get rid of dark circles under eyes comes down to knowing their cause. Once you knowthat, you can find a treatment to eliminate them.
Your genetics, behavioral patterns, and aging can all contribute to dark circles appearing under eyes. Before you start to treat your dark circles, you should identify the cause. What works for one problem may not eliminate dark circles that appear for another reason.
Most people have dark circles related to one or more of these causes.
The skin beneath your eyes is the thinnest on your body. As you age, the fatty tissues that cover that area begin to thin even further.
Without sufficient tissue, dark blood vessels become more prominent. This tissue loss creates the common ‘panda bear’ look around your eyes.
As you age, your cells lose collagen and fatneeded to maintain your skin’s elasticity. Collagen and fat lossleads to thinner skin, exposing the blood vessels under your eyes.
Collagen also helps to provide structure for your skin. A lack of collagen results in a loss of firmness and makes your skin prone to sagging. It also contributes to the appearance of dark circles under eyes.
An inconsistent sleeping schedule or poor sleep habits can also lead to the formation of dark circles. Irregular sleeping habits cause dark tissues and blood vessels beneath your skin to show.
When you’re sleep-deprived, fluid builds up beneath the skin. As a result, this fluid causes your eyelids to become puffy.Puffy eyelids can cast shadows, making it look as though you have dark circles under your eyes.
As your body experiences stress, it directs blood toward the vital organs and away from the face. This redirection leaves the skin near your eyes pale and the blood vessels more pronounced.
High stress can also damage the veins and capillaries surrounding the eyes. If the damage is severe, it can result in your veins leaking blood. As this blood oxidizes, it turns a shade of dark purple, which can appear as dark circles.
Harmful UV rays from the sun can cause our skin to age faster and deteriorate.Skin damage from the sun can also show up as dark circles under the eyes.
Sleep deprivation or aging causes the skin around the eyes to lose its firmness and elasticity. Combined with the effects of the sun, this accelerates the process and causes dark circles to appear.
Too much sun can also cause your body to create too much melanin. Melanin is the pigment that gives color to your hair, eyes, and skin. Excessive melanin production around the eyes can cause the skin to darken.
The human body retains water when it becomes dehydrated. Water retention, in turn, makes your eyes look puffy or sunken as a result of your body’s natural functions.
Dehydration can also cause your blood volume and pressure to drop. This drop results in blood flowing slower throughout your body. As a result, you can see darker colored blood vessels more clearly.
Replenishing what your body has lost is the key to how to get rid of dark circles under the eyes. By providing your body with the nutrients it needs, you can reduce the appearance of dark circles and look younger.
Retinoids are compounds that are essential to rebuilding your skin’s collagen. Retinoids work to eliminate dark circles under eyes by thickening the outer layer of collagen on your skin.
Collagen loss occurs as a result of aging and skin damage from the sun. If you’re looking for a reliable method for how to get rid of dark circles under eyes, try applying an effective retinoid cream. Not only will it restore your skin to its former beauty, but it will also rebuild the collagen you’ve lost.
A good retinoid cream will moisturize and invigorate your skin. Check out our review of the XYZ Smart Collagen anti-aging cream here.
In some instances, dark spots appear above the skin and not below. As a result, a lightening product can help to lighten these areas and even remove dark circles under eyes.
If the sun has damaged your skin, look for products that contain generousamounts Vitamin C. Vitamin C inhibits the production of melanin, which is responsible for turning your skin turning darker.
You can find Vitamin C in your favorite citrus fruits or in certain skincare products. If you’re looking for a lightening product for your skin, check out Meladerm.
Meladerm skin lightening cream lightens pigment inconsistencies to reduce dark circles under eyes. It’s a popular cream touted as one of the bestselling skincare products since 2017. Click here to read about our product review on Meladerm and decide whether it’s right for you.
Knowing how to get rid of dark circles under eyes is one thing. But did you know you can also prevent them from forming?

Lots of people worry about their appearance—even more so as they age. While some people start to see signs of aging earlier than others, everyone eventually has some degree of wrinkles around their mouths, eyes, and eyebrows.
Wrinkles around the mouth sometimes referred to as smile or laugh lines are nothing to be ashamed of. They are evidence of a life filled with smiles and laughter. However, age, genetics, smoking habits, and sun exposure all play their part in how soon you’ll start to see lines around your mouth, known as perioral wrinkles.
Unfortunately, women are more likely to show wrinkles. Once you start to see fine lines and wrinkles, the only solution is working to minimize their appearance before they can get worse.
With the help of a good dermatologist, the right products, and, in some cases, cosmetic surgery, you can work towards preventing, minimizing, and treating wrinkles around your mouth.
Collagen is a naturally occurring protein found in your skin, hair, and nails. If you follow any influencers on social media, chances are you’ve noticed at least once of them touting a collagen smoothie. Collagen promotes a youthful, firm, and glowing complexion.
As we age, collagen production slows to a near halt. By age 40, your body is making less than half the collagen it did 20 years ago.
Dermatologists might recommend using a retinoid, serums, deep moisturizers, and other collagen enhancing creamsto prevent wrinkles. Retinoids improve cell turn over—something else slows down as we age—and boost collagen, but they can also be very harsh on the skin and increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun.
Believe it or not, you are exposed to the sun’s damaging UV rays even in cloudy weather. Sun exposure is one of the primary causes of premature aging. It breaks down your skin’s natural collagen and decreases skin elasticity. Wearing sunscreen of at least SPF 30 every day—no matter how brief your time spent outside—will protect your facial skin from harmful UV rays and limit the breakdown of collagen.
You may have noticed that Kim Kardashian never smiles in her photos. It’s not because she’s a mean person, nor because she has nothing to smile about. Instead, she’s committed to a lifetime of maintaining a relaxed face to avoid fine lines.
The most expressive people are the most likely to develop wrinkles around the mouth. If you take a look in the mirror and practice smiling, laughing, frowning, or squinting, you’ll notice the exact points where your face creases.
If you’ve started to notice lines in these common points, you might be over-expressing. You can take the route of Kim Kardashian, or you can consider some of your other options.
If the muscles in your face are well exercised and toned, they’re less likely to show fine lines and wrinkles. Muscle tone can make up for lost collagen. Your dermatologist can suggest the best facial exercises for your problem areas and show you how to perform them.
Your dermatologist or local medical spa will likely have a menu full of in-office procedures. These procedures can include the ever-popular Botox and fillers as well as various physical and chemical exfoliation methods.
Chemical peel options range from mild at-home masks to clinical-grade. As the name suggests, clinical-grade chemical peels are only available through professional services. Chemical peels, like in-office procedures, work to remove the upper level of your skin and invigorate your lower levels for a youthful appearance.
For instant, albeit temporary results, micro-needling is a good option. This procedure is exactly what it sounds like. Small needles are used to penetrate your skin’s upper layer to stimulate collagen production and tighten skin. Microinfusions are a similar option that drive microdroplets of fillers and neuromodulators into your skin for an instant smoothing effect.
Dermabrasion and resurfacing lasers work to remove the upper layers of dead skin and minimize the appearance of perioral wrinkles. Unlike micro-needling and microinfusions, dermabrasion and resurfacing layers have a period of recovery before you fully realize your results.
Recovery is not to be understated. If your goal is to leave your appointment looking better than when you went in, micro-needling and microinfusions are likely your best options. If you’re a little more patient and can handle the shock of dry, chapped, and red skin, dermabrasion and resurfacing lasers are a possibility for you.
All of the above methods are temporary fixes for your skin woes. Each of these quick fixes will require regular visits to maintain a wrinkle-free result.
If prevention hasn’t worked to your satisfaction or you don’t want to keep up with regular office visits, a facelift is the most invasive option for coping with wrinkles around the mouth. As such, it also has the longest recovery time and carries the risk of scars.
There are non-surgical facelift options available, but these require regular maintenance to achieve a lasting effect, as well.
You could also consider fat transfer. Like a facelift, you will need to visit a plastic surgeon to find out if this option is right for you. Fat transfer, also known as micro liposuction, is the process of removing unwanted fat from your buttocks, stomach, or legs, placing it in a centrifuge, and having it carefully injected into the wrinkles around your mouth.
The skincare market can be overwhelming, to say the least. Plenty of products promise far more than they can possibly deliver. Your dermatologist will likely have a long list of over-the-counter and prescription products for you to try.
If you’d rather go the do-it-yourself route or you’re the type to research products on your own, you’re sure to find a wealth of knowledge and product recommendations on the many internet skincare communities, beauty magazines, and YouTube gurus.
Focus on products with clinically proven results.
When choosing skin care products, it’s a safe bet to go with your dermatologist’s recommendation. They will have a variety of clinically-tested products with proven results. Some dermatologists may even sell their own line of branded skincare products.
When you opt for clinically tested products, you can rest assured that it has been thoughtfully engineered and tested to meet a laundry list of skin concerns. A good anti-aging product works to maintain your skin’s natural collagen production and prevent premature collagen breakdown.
Many products will include active ingredients such as retinol, Vitamin C, Lactic Acid, and Glycolic Acid, among others. These active ingredients work to chemically exfoliate the upper epidermis of your skin, but also increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun, so it’s doubly important to utilize a daily sunscreen. Regular use of these topical creams can minimize the appearance of existing wrinkles around the mouth while preventing new ones from forming.
Chemical exfoliation firms, lifts, and tightens sagging skin to achieve a contoured and sculpted look. It’s never too early to incorporate an active ingredient into your skincare regimen. Many are also a powerful remedy for old acne scars, skin texture issues, and stretch marks.
A cursory browse of Sephora, the internet, or your local drug store will likely leave you overwhelmed with the plethora of options—and they certainly don’t come cheap. Rather than tirelessly trying every available option, it’s important to search for clinically proven products with good reviews.
Your dermatologist or esthetician is always going to be your best resource for finding recommendations best suited to your skin’s unique needs.
As you browse the skincare market, you’re sure to see a wide range of prices. You don’t have to pay a fortune to get the results you want. While not all products are created equally, the most expensive products are not always the most effective. As far as cost-effective anti-aging wrinkle products, we recommend checking out XYZ Smart Collagen.
I do. I really do. There’s just something about the idea of those lines on my head that makes me want to cry. Luckily for me, they’re not too pronounced. But unluckily for me, I think they may be before long.
Do you have that same dreaded feeling, every time you make an expression or, god forbid, look in the mirror? Perhaps you do, you are reading this after all.
So you know what I mean then?
That dreaded feeling you get when you have to face the forehead – it’s not my favorite activity, I must say. So, to try and stop myself feeling any worse and even have a go at making the whole situation a little more pleasant (let’s face it, it’s not going to come on leaps and bounds overnight), I did a bit of research.
I guess for me, one day, it just got so much worse. One minute I had these faint lines on my forehead that you could only really see if I frowned and in the right light. Then, the next, they became a permanent feature. Needless to say, I’m not impressed – but it’s time to admit I need to do something about it.
Now, back to the research. It was good – excellent. I now finally feel like I know what I’m doing, what I shouldn’t do and what I need to do. And so I shall impart my new-found wisdom on you too..
Among the many anti-aging skin care regimens I reviewed to get rid of my forehead wrinkles, I was most impressed by the product line from XYZ Smart Collagen. This groundbreaking selection of all-natural anti-aging products is bound to surpass your expectations for healthy skin. Check out my review of this innovative skincare line for more info. Moving on…
You’re probably not going to want to hear this bit (I know, because I didn’t either), but there are things we all shouldn’t have done, or still be doing, if we want to be forehead wrinkle free. After all, we do know that prevention is better than cure when it comes to, well, everything – so it shouldn’t be that much of a surprise.
Staying out the sun, wearing an SPF, not smoking and sleeping well all top the list and I’m not all that surprised. I know that sun damage counts for an unbelievably huge percentage of wrinkle problems, but I don’t always remember to wear an SPF (oops). I don’t smoke, so that’s ticked off my list and I do try to sleep a lot, but my body doesn’t always let me (neither does having a job)!
But if like it is for me, it’s a bit too late for you, and you want to know a bit more on what can help you now, I have those bits covered off also…
Let’s ease you in with these, shall we! You may only need something topical to do the trick, especially if your forehead wrinkles are only faint or aren’t that deep yet and of course any source of Omega 3 can help – the fatty oils help to plump out the skin, including those pesky wrinkles.
Now we know that specific facial movement can cause our dreaded forehead wrinkles to form, but there is also a little trick that can help – petroleum jelly. It seems a bit silly, but the petroleum jelly works with the skin. After washing, spread a little along the forehead and it will get to work with plumping the skin and reducing the deepness of the lines. Genius, right!?
For something a little more commercial, there’s always the top 10 anti wrinkle creams. It seems like a cliché, but there are some that work wonders – particular those with Retinol (a form of Vitamin A that works amazingly with fine lines and wrinkles) in. I’ve tried La Roche Posay’s Redermic Anti-Ageing Dermatological Treatment, Roc’s Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Filler and even Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Plump Perfect Ultra Lift and Firm Moisture Cream with SPF 30 (an easy way of getting that in) so far and I have nothing but praise for each of them. They really can do the work!
Even illuminating face primers can help – the trick being the illuminating part. They work to reflect light away from the skin and sort of distract attention away from your forehead wrinkles (to pretend they’re not there) – which sounds good to me, and it works!
For something a little more permanent, there are always the surgical options. Botox being the first. Some people are partial, and others will say never, but it’s there. Botox needs to be applied every 4-6 months to be effective and primarily works by freezing the muscles to make it impossible for them to wrinkle. I like the sound of this.
Likewise, there are peels. Sometimes called a chemical peel or an acid peel, it means that the top layer(s) of skin is removed to allow the fresh skin to replace it – thus super soft and (hopefully) wrinkle free! It can seem a little bit daunting or even over the top, but professionals have been doing them for years, and I’ve seen the results – they’re great. They also work wonders for other lines and even blemishes – something other options can’t work on at the same time.
And, if all of this seems a little bit much for you at the moment, there’s always bangs! Now you may laugh, but if you have bangs, you don’t have to look at the forehead wrinkles anymore – it’s a win-win situation.
For me, I think I’m going to stick to my limited options and give my skin the hydration it needs.
For that, I loved the all-natural product line from XYZ Smart Collagen. This California-based company is committed to a skincare regimen that delivers impressive results without the use of any toxic ingredients. That was something really important to me.
This beauty regimen provides all the hydration my skin needs to look and feel amazing with products I feel like I can trust. I’ve tried a variety of skincare lines before deciding on this one, and they just didn’t measure up. I highly recommend you give the Renew line a try yourself—I know I’m sticking with it. Read more about it here!
But that doesn’t mean to say I won’t opt for Botox or a peel if my problem persists – I will beat your forehead wrinkles, I will!
Who says you have to pay hundreds of dollars for high-quality skincare?
We sought to find out if the Glow Maker serum from Maelove could live up to the promise of other more expensive Vitamin C serums, which claim to reduce fine lines, firm and brighten the skin, and protect your complexion from environmental damage.
With up to 90% of visible aging thought to be caused by “atmospheric aggressors,” protecting your skin with something is vital to keep your appearance youthful. Though Vitamin C can’t reverse wrinkles that appear naturally as we age, it can (and does) protect the skin from wrinkles due to the sun. It can also help smooth and improve the appearance of your skin’s surface by stimulating collagen growth.
But wait, what does collagen have to do with Vitamin C and skincare?
Here’s the thing. Your skin needs collagen to stay young. This protein is a connective tissue that is quite literally the glue that holds your connective tissue together. It’s a vital component of your skin, hair, bones, joints, and muscles.
As we age, our body produces less and less collagen. By the time we turn 25, our bodies begin to break down collagen faster than they can replace it. That’s bad news for our complexion, and it leads to premature lines, wrinkles, brown spots, and other discoloration.
The problem with taking collagen as a food or supplement is that the body might not be able to absorb it and put those nutrients to good use. However, by applying a Vitamin C serum to the skin, you can boost your own collagen production naturally.
Now that you know how vital Vitamin C is to improveyour skin’s tone and keeping it looking its best, the next question is, does Maelove Glow Maker serum deliver?
In this detailed and honest Maelove review, we’ll answer that question. We’ll also give you our opinion about how this Maelove serum compares to pricier options like SkinCeuticals.

There’s a lot of gimmicky skincare products on the market, so Maelove is a welcome breath of fresh air. The company was founded by a team of MIT grads, led by Jackie Kim.
A long-time, self-described skincare aficionado, Kim noticed a distinct lack of affordable, high-quality options. Budget-conscious, she tried everything under the sun with a low price tag, but she was underwhelmed by the results. She noticed that high-priced items made her skin feel incredible, but the price tag was a big deterrent for her.
She sought to find a way to bring affordable skincare to the masses, and the Maeloveproduct line was born.
Using science, data, and AI (Artificial Intelligence), Kim and her team have harnessed the power of research to make a product that fulfills its promises. They also worked directly with chemists, dermatologists, and plastic surgeons to develop the formulas for their suite of products, which includes eye creams, fade scarring kits, oils, and cleansers.
The team didn’t stop there, either. To ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction, they also analyzed over three million skincare product reviews to see what people liked and didn’t like. As a result of all this research, Maelove products are not only effective, but they also work well with all skin types.
The main ingredients in Maelove’s Glow Maker are well-documented for their beneficial effects, and there’s even a patent on their overall composition. Maelove has been able to duplicate the blend of ingredients without violating the patent by slightly altering the concentration of two of the three main components.
Overall, Maelove’s The Glow Maker has 19 ingredients. At first glance, that seems like a lot, but the list includes basics like water, preservatives, and chelating agents (which filter out toxins and metals from water and other ingredients).
L-ascorbic acid is a well-researched form of Vitamin C that is shown to be incredibly beneficial to the skin. 15% is considered an ideal concentration because it is high enough to even out skin tone without affecting people with sensitive complexions.
Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant, meaning it helps prevent cell oxidation. Rust is a form of oxidation, so you can think of Vitamin C as akin to protecting the surface of your skin from environmental pollutants and UV damage.
This compound can be found in the cell wall of plants, which has led researchers to believe that it can also be beneficial in skin cell walls of humans. When applied topically, it has been shown to treat sun damage while also reversing early signs of aging, like fine lines and wrinkles.
Tocopherol is a type of Vitamin E, which is also an antioxidant. When it comes to skin health, tocopherols are a superstar ingredient because they make up 96% of your skin’s natural antioxidant defense system. There are several benefits associated with tocopherol, including:
In addition to helping your skin, tocopherol also does double duty as a natural preservative. Because Vitamin C breaks down easily when exposed to air and sunlight, the tocopherol that’s present in Maelove’s The Glow Maker helps keep the product working from the first day you open it, up to the last drop.
This tongue twister of an ingredient is known to enhance the efficacy of anything it partners with. In the case of Maelove, it also helps to dissolve and mix all of the ingredients, so you get an even, well-distributed application every time.
It also helps add moisture to your skin. Some people have expressed concern that a Vitamin C serum can be drying, so adding ethoxydiglycol can alleviate this concern.
This species of aloe is highly moisturizing, and it also adds a protective layer to the skin to help fight against harmful UV rays and other environmental pollutants. Don’t worry; it won’t make your skin feel like it can’t breathe. The effect is very subtle.
This potent ingredient is a powerhouse of health, both inside and out. It’s known to moisturize, reduce the appearance of dark circles, fade scars, help prevent sun damage, and even tighten skin. Grapeseed extract is beneficial on its own, but when you combine it with Maelove’s other components, you get even more help for your skin.
Glycerin helps hydrate your skin and provide a barrier to keep the good stuff inside. It’s a common ingredient in skincare products and helps make them more effective overall.
This ingredient also helps boost collagen production, making it a powerful partner to the Vitamin C already present in this serum. As we age, we lose hyaluronic acid, but sodium hyaluronate helps replace and restore it naturally.
Many skincare ingredients can cause adverse reactions, so Magnolia Officinalis bark extract comes to the rescue for its soothing properties. It’s also an effective antibacterial agent, protecting your face from irritants that lead to acne.
Not just a baking ingredient, xanthan gum is also used in skincare products as a conditioning agent and an emulsifier, meaning it prevents oils and other liquids from separating.
We sifted through thousands of Maelove reviews, including navigating the messy waters of Reddit, so you won’t have to dig through a bunch of inauthentic hype. We found a common theme among the reviews that we read, so we’ve highlighted what people say consistently about this product.
Some of the common themes we came acrosspraise Maelove serum for the dramatic disappearance and fading brown spots and age spots. One reviewer, aged 72, said she uses this product religiously, and she often gets mistaken for being nearly two decades younger! Who wouldn’t love that?!
Another reviewer said that she had tried more expensive products in the past, and though she was pleased with the results, she wanted something more economical. After trying this product, she said, “Within two weeks, I was glowing more than ever. My skin tone was brighter, and I decided to try more of their products!”
Our verdict? If you try this product, be prepared for compliments as well as significant savings!
The founders of Maelove have been public about their mission to make “elite skincare accessible to everyone.” They follow a direct-to-consumer model that cuts out the middleman, allowing them to pass their savings directly onto you, the buyer.
They also keep marketing and advertising costs low, relying mostly on word-of-mouth. As a result, Maelove is a fairly well-kept secret, but not for long!
The only downside is that this serum is frequently sold out. Despite this inconvenience, we can’t complain. High demand is a good thing. They also create in small, carefully crafted batches.
So far, The Glow Maker is a cult favorite among beauty insiders in the know, but we wouldn’t be surprised if this serum became mainstream this year.
How does MaeloveGlow Maker compare to SkinCeuticals’ CE Ferulic Serum? Other than the price difference ($27.95 for Maelove versus $166 for SkinCeuticals), the differences are negligible.
Many people are skeptical of a moderately priced product, believing the phrase, “you get what you pay for.” For this reason, people who can afford it often try these products side by side and compare the results.
What we often hear is that Maelove performs comparably to SkinCeuticals. They do say that it seems like SkinCeuticals is more potent, but they’re happy to switch to the less expensive product and use slightly more of it. All in all, they still come out ahead!
If you’re looking for a product that makes you skin glow while fighting signs of aging due to sun damage, it doesn’t get any better than Maelove’s The Glow Maker. It delivers on its promise to reduce hyperpigmentation while smoothing and hydrating the skin.
The founders of the company even added extracts that make it suitable for sensitive skin. Our verdict is that Maelove is a buy!
